These two pins are rather uncommon and date from the 1960's. They were made by the Amish in the Pennsylvania Dutch region and sold at open markets. I know that the men carved the pins and the women did the painting. I dont believe they continue this tradition today, as most of the Amish markets do not sell jewelry items anymore.
The pins are hand carved and engraved and painted in folk art designs, similar to the designs you see on their barns and houses. They are painted with red, white and blue enamels with highlights in gold, and clear coated. The designs are burnished into the wood, accounting for the dark brown color.
The pins are different sizes : 1 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" wide. Both have painted black backs and old brass C clasps. Both are in mint condition and are not signed.
Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
