Made in Spain in the 1950s, the Damascene medallion is unique. Unique when it was made, and a very unique style of jewelry to wear today. The most abundant Spanish Damascene jewelry made in the 1940-1960 era were brooches and earrings. Pendants were also made, but not in great abundance. In addition, pendants were typically rather small until the late 1950s when large designs like this were produced in small numbers. This round and slightly domed medallion features an engraved bird with flowers in 24kt gold on a matt black enamel background. The back of the medallion is concave with radiating ribs in polished 24kt gold plating. The pendant also has the original 24 kt gold-plated bail.Large in size, the medallion is 1 7/8" or 48 mm wide. The original gold metal chain is 23" or 58 cm long. You can get a better indication of the size by viewing the photo of the pendant in my hand. Both necklace and pendant are in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. There is no gold or enamel wear, and no loss of gold or enamel. The pendant is not signed.Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
