This is a remarkable old bird pin because few peacock pins like this were ever made and ever survived. Little girls threw them at their sisters, dropped them down the stairs, and put them on the dog; but this one looks like its' never been touched. This is a hand-crafted costume pin that is signed Korea. That's important because it represents a very brief period in jewelry history when the US imported jewelry from Korea. A very limited amount of jewelry was imported. It was a very limited time period because the Japanese would soon put them out of the export business. All signed Korea vintage jewelry in good condition is well worth collecting and Korea no longer exports jewelry. The flamboyant bird demonstrates the use of the latest and greatest paints of that time: iridescent neon enamels with a very fine granular sugar coating on the body of the bird. The iridescent bright blue and green tail feathers are dotted with electric pink enamels. The pin is a crude casting from light weight silver metal alloy that is probably a mix of aluminum and nickel. The peacock measures 2 1/8" long x 1 1/8" tall or 5.5 cm x 2.7 cm. The enamels are perfect and the sugar coating has some light wear.Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.* You can add a gold or silver brooch slider to convert this pin to a pendant by checking the box below.
