Wow!... Is what I say when I see a big vintage copper brooches in great condition that are over 65 yrs old! While I have collected all designer signed copper brooches I could find, Bell Copper was one designer that many overlooked. Why? Even though they were 1 of 3 of the largest designers of copper jewelry in the US, their copper was different. Many years ago, German copper, like what was used in Rebajes jewelry as well as the heavy, thick, dense copper used by Renoir - most people thought that was the only type of copper that would have value because of the copper content or density.Bell copper jewelry has a distinct look because their cooper came from mines in the US southwest that has a totally different color and density than what other copper mines produced. It is great solid copper but other minerals in the mine created copper that is brighter with an orange metallic tint. It is prettier and retains its polished look unlike copper that is more dense.I admire the overall appearance of this flower because it has layers of petals in two finishes of linear etched and polished. The layering adds great visual appeal as well as the large, polished copper ball bead at the center. This brooch is signed Bell Copper with the Bell insignia on a cartouche. The brooch is a big hand full at 2 3/8" wide. For a better feel for the size, see the photo of the brooch in my hand. The back of the petals are finished in both burnished and satin with a clear Capron coat. This brooch is in pristine mint condition all around. It is perfect with no scratches or wear. The fine working original safety clasp is also in place.Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.
