For centuries, jewelry makers have been fascinated with Cat's Eye jewelry, or the operculum that comes from large Turban snails.

During the Victorian era, Cat's Eyes were made into jewelry which was worn to ward off the evil eye. Such jewelry was especially popular among sea-trading people like the British. Most of the Cat's Eye jewelry of this era was made by or for sailors and given as gifts to female relatives and lovers. The fascination of Cat's Eyes was so great that in the Bohemian region, glass makers have made blown glass Cat's Eyes since Victorian times.

Made in the 1940-1950 era, this Bohemian glass Cat's Eye brooch has a spectacular focal glass cab in dark and medium browns and white. <br />     The cab is set in an ornate wide scrolling metal frame of antiqued brass. The brooch is solid weighty construction and if you look at the back you can see the bezel was hand hammered.

Unsigned, the brooch is medium in size at 1 1/2" tall x 1 1/4" wide or 38 mm x 32 mm. The glass cab is 26 mm x 20 mm. The entire pin is in pristine microscopically clean condition with no imperfections or flaws. The Cat's Eye glass cab is perfect with no scratches, scuffs, chips, or cracks. The back has the original fine working safety clasp. Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a new presentation jewelry box.

* This pin can be worn as a pendant with a brooch slider by checking the option box.
