Made in Japan in the 1940-1950 era, these Phoenix bird Damascene cufflinks are a very unique design not often found in old Japanese Damascene. 

The cufflinks are a domed button style in satin matte black enamel. The birds are 14kt gold bevel etched. The back of the cufflinks and the mechanisms are 14kt rolled gold. This was a standard way in which all old Japanese Damascene cufflinks were made, some having more gold than others. 

The cufflinks have nice weight for their size, or slightly smaller than a US quarter or 7/8" wide. The pair is in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. The backs have no signs of wear, or so minimal it's hardly worth nothing. The cufflinks are not signed.
