These impressive very lovely cobalt blue glass flower earrings date from the 1940s. They are a very old custom-made design in sterling silver. The earrings are not signed but they were probably made by Ballou or some other top quality US designer from the 1940s. The earrings were handmade and the hand soldered sterling shows exceptional craftsmanship. The cobalt glass cabs are oval mold faceted cabs and the color saturation is regal and intense with fire and opacity. This is truly very old blue glass with intense color due to the high cobalt content, like very old cobalt glass apothecary bottles. The earrings are an open flower design embellished with clear rhinestone chatons. All of the rhinestones are sparkling clear and all of the rhinestones and glass cabs are prong set. The glass stones are open back, allowing light to increase their sparkle dramatically. The earrings are medium large in size at 1 1/8" wide, or 2.9 cm. They are slightly larger than a US quarter. The blue glass cabs are 11 mm long. The earrings are screw backs and both earrings are signed Sterling. The pair is in microscopic clean condition and excellent overall condition. There is one minor mold imperfection to one of the blue glass cabs : in the center of one cab is a slight depression, barely noticeable to the naked eye. The sterling is clean and bright with microscopic light signs of wear on the backs.Comes gift wrapped and shipped in a luxury presentation earring box.
