Big Leather Flower Pins Lavender n Purple Brooches Vintage Jewelry
During the mid 1980s, for a very short time, there was a fashion craze of leather jewelry; specifically, big colorful leather flower pins.
Today, leather is so expensive and in high demand, I know some locals who buy scraps from tanneries and ship the leather to China. Apparently, China doesn't have any cows, and no leather.
Most of the leather pins that were made in the 1980s are unsigned and were made by small US and Canadian jewelry firms that don't exist today. For this reason, big colorful vintage leather flower pins have become very collectible. Some new pieces on the market are being made in China but you can tell the difference by the quality of the leather and the style of the pin backs. On new leather pins, the pin back style is just a straight bar pin with no round center metal piece and the leather will be thin and very fuzzy on the back.
This Lavender and dark purple flower duo were meant to be worn together. The centers have frilly stamens that can be gently pulled and arranged. The flowers are super large at 3 3/4" or 95 mm wide.
Both flowers are in pristine clean like new condition with no fading, signs of wear, or other imperfections. The pin backs are in proper working order and the flowers are not signed.
