Art Nouveau Sterling Pin BIG Flower Brooch 1940s Vintage Jewelry
In Europe in the early to mid 1990's, big sterling silver exotic flower brooches were worn by ladies of distinction and high fashion. A woman had to "be somebody" to wear sterling or gold jewelry as the average person could not afford such jewelry.
Art Nouveau in design and completely hand crafted, this lily or trumpet flower brooch is a massive presentation piece. It is 4 1/4" long x 2 1/4" wide or 108 mm x 57 mm. The scalloped petals are smooth while the leaf at the center has hand etched veins.
The back of the brooch has the original fine working sterling safety clasp and sterling bar hinge and the brooch is stamped Sterling. The sterling signature block print letters and the safety clasp indicate that the brooch was most likely made in the 1940s.
The brooch has been very well cared for and there are no imperfections like scratches, scuffs, or dings. The brooch has a fine aged satin patina and has only been lightly cleaned and polished. On the bar hinge closure only, there is some moderate sterling wear.
