Elegant Black Onyx Gold Button Earrings 1940s Vintage Jewelry
Made in the 1940-1950 era, these gold button style screw back earrings with polished black Onyx cabs were one of the most popular fine jewelry earring styles from that era.
I don't know any woman who didn’t own a pair of these, which ironically, is the exact reason why finding these earrings in excellent condition today is a very difficult task. Women wore them often and they became lost, damaged, or showed signs of heavy wear.
These earrings are not signed but under close examination I believe they are 14/20 gold filled. They test positive for 14kt but the solder work on the back leads me to believe they are gold filled and not solid gold.
The black Onyx cabs are expertly crafted and polished and at the center, what looks like a diamond is a either a really rough cut diamond or glass. Personally, looking at them with a loupe I believe it is glass, but I could be wrong. The onyx cabs are framed in saw tooth bezels and surrounded in round twisted gold frames.
Petite in size, these screw back earrings are about 3/4" or 18 mm wide.
The pair is in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. There are no scratches or dings to the Onyx or gold and no gold wear or loss of gold. (The gold that is on the back of the cabs has some tiny darkened spots from soldering.)
