This vintage Cherokee Indian button basket is one of the nicest little baskets you will ever find. This basket has been part of my basket collection for many decades. It was made in the 1945-1960 era and I purchased it directly from a lady who deals only in Cherokee baskets in NC.
This ash splint basket very ascetically pleasing as well as exceptionally well crafted. The splints and canes have perfect uniformity and nice dyed patterns around the middle and on the lid. The basket has a long handle that is attached to the lid with braided rings. The lid also has a braided ring and loop closure; button style.
Medium petite in size, the basket is 5" or 12.7 cm tall. With the handle, it is 9" or 23 cm tall. The basket is 5" or 12.7 cm wide.
I admire the way this basket fits nicely in my hand. I can easily grab it from the side and pick it up. The entire basket is in pristine clean like new condition and the caning has perfect moisture and color retention. There are no breaks in the splints or caning anywhere with the exception of one crease in one cane on the lid to the left of the closure button. Very excellent clean condition inside and out.
