This romantic cameo scene jewelry box was widely known to many ladies in the 1960s when it was made. Today, this jewelry box is not easy to find.
This Art Nouveau style box is made of ivory celluloid and has ornate scrolls on all sides, fancy feet, and a large picture frame scene on the lid. It is a garden scene of a man and woman in Victorian attire. The man is showing the lady a bird on his hand. The inside of the box has an oval mirror on the lid and a plastic red foam insert with 3 compartments. Boxes like this were made in both Japan and China and this one is signed China. Actually, it is one of the very first exports of any kind that came from China.
Medium in size, the box is 5" long x 3 1/2" front to back, and 2 1/2" tall. The entire box is in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. There are no scratches, scuffs, or chips and no signs of wear. The mirror and the inside is clean and like new as well.
