Made in the 1940s, the large "Mother" brooch is a unique openwork lace design in clear celluloid. Vintage clear celluloid jewelry is very uncommon to find. It was a common practice many decades ago for children to buy jewelry with the word mother on it to give as a gift for a birthday or Mothers Day. It is actually a part of our culture that has been lost over time having give way to flowers and chocolates.

The word mother and the flowers are painted in sky blue enamel. The flowers are a rainbow assortment of very cool old paste rhinestones.

A large oval design, the brooch is 2 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" tall or 60 mm x 45 mm. The back has the original C clasp. The entire brooch is all original and in pristine clean like new condition with no imperfections or flaws. The brooch is not signed.
